Where It All Started
Rohan did not grow up in a startup hub, surrounded with people who have always built something; he grew up in a small rural village in the Western Ghats of southwest India, where life moved to the rhythm of monsoons, and the wisdom of generations was passed down through everyday conversations.
His mother was a farmer who taught him something simple but powerful: every choice you make echoes through your community and through the environment. His father, active in local social work and deeply committed to honesty, showed him that real leadership means serving others while staying true to your values.
Small Instances That Led To Building Something Big
When water scarcity hit Rohan’s own village, he designed and built a 3D replica of his village and terrain to demonstrate rainwater harvesting solutions to local communities. He spent a full year teaching underprivileged children. He participated in conservation projects connecting heritage and environment. He saw, again and again, how innovation can come from truly understanding a local problem.
Then came the pandemic, and most festivals faced restrictions, but Rohan did not stop, and it was during the Ganesh festival that he led a team that created and delivered 100 eco-friendly Lord Ganesh idols. They handled manufacturing, design, marketing, and logistics themselves, and the project won a Clean City Award from the municipal corporation, but what it really proved was this: ‘Cultural celebration and environmental responsibility can also lift each other up; you just need the right methods and awareness.’
The Moment of Clarity
Now that was not enough; to actually do something tangible, we do need the clarity, so Rohan wrote down five values he refused to build without: Environment, Creativity, Culture, Science and Technology, and Wellbeing.
He started researching sustainable solutions and found something troubling. We have got remarkable eco-social innovators everywhere, artisans creating beautiful products from waste materials, farmers practising regenerative agriculture and social entrepreneurs solving local problems with global implications. Yet, their work remained largely invisible to conscious consumers who genuinely want to support it.
The Problem was identified, and the solution was made in the form of Wibhoo…
Why Was Wibhoo Made?
“I saw that the problem was connection,” Rohan said. “Helping people find each other and creating systems that make conscious choices the easy choices.” With this ideology was Wibhoo made.
